Abstract: The aim of the series of lecturesis to introduce a proper measurement strategy in the time or frequency domain.In practice, two fundamentally different measurement techniques are used. Insampling oscilloscopes, using the stroboscopic principle, repeated"voltage steps" are fed into the system to observe its response. Eachstep has an infinite spectrum ~1/f.On the contrary, in vector network analysers(VNA), a sinusoidal signal feeding into the system is swept in a certainfrequency range (fstart, fstop) toobserve a dispersive response of the system.

Theprogram is divided into Two specialist parts which include:

1.Introduce how two different measurementtechniques —— the time and frequency domains, are realized at the instrumentallevel.

2. Contact and free space microwavemeasurements with applications to signal integrity,magneto-impedance sensors, and composite materials with the microwireinclusions.     

Dr. DmitriyMakhnovskiygothis Bachelor and Master  degree inPhysics from Physics Department,Moscow State University, Russia in 1987 and 1993 respectively. He  got his Ph.D.

In  Applied Physics, from School of Computing andMathematics, Plymouth University, UK.

Since  2014 he worked as the Director in SensingMaterials Technology Ltd, UK; Senior Engineering

Physicist,RoBAT Ltd,UK.  He also is a Research Scientist inthe Advanced Composites Manufacturing Centre, Plymouth University, School ofMarine Science and Engineering, UK.
