Professor Michael R. Wisnom, Fellow of the Royal Academyof Engineering, the Director of the Bristol Composites Institute(ACCIS) at the University of Bristol(UK), visited ZhejiangUniversity, hosted by Professor Hua-xin Peng, the director of the Institute for Composites Science Innovation (InCSI), on 1st September, 2017.
Prof. Wisnom and Prof. Hua-xin Peng had a detailed discussion on the potential cooperation programs, in order to promote the academiccollaborations between Zhejiang University and University of Bristol in thefield of advanced composites.
During the visit, Professor Wisnom delivered an inspiring lecture on composites design andfailure with audience coming from School of Materials, Aerospace and Polymer. The lecture entitled of “Creating composites thatfail more gradually”, covers topics from the macroscopic experiment to micro-structuredefects and the relationship between micro-defects and performance ofmacro-materials, which led us into a new stage of composites research.
